F. cerealis (Cooke) Sacc.

 

Microconidia: Absent

 

Macroconidia: stout, thick-walled, apical and basal cells curved, especially the apical cell, foot-shaped basal cell, usually 5-septate

 

Conidiophores: branched and unbranched monophialides.

 

Chlamydospores: Abundant, produced singly, in chains and in clumps

 

Perfect State: Unknown.

 

On PDA: rapid growth, profuse aerial mycelium with carmine red undersurface. Resembles F. graminearum, F. culmorum and other members of the G. zeae species complex.
