F. circinatum Nirenberg & O'Donnell

Microconidia: borne in aerial mycelium, mostly obovoid, occasionally oval to allantoid, 0-septate, sometimes 1- or more septate. Aggregate in false heads reminiscent of F. subglutinans.

Macroconidia: slender, cylindrical, mostly 3-septate, with incurved apical cell.

Conidiophores: In aerial mycelium erect, strongly branched. Branches terminating in 1 or 2 phialides, often proliferating and associated with sterile coiled hyphae. Sporodochial conidiophores verticillately branched.

Chlamydospores: Absent.

Perfect State: Gibberella circinata (heterothallic).

On PDA: average mycelial growth, aerial mycelium whitish tinged greyish-violet in colony center. Reverse greyish white to dark violet in colony center.

Notes: Formerly known as F. subglutinans f.sp. pini, the causative agent of pitch canker of pine. Represents mating population H of the Gibberella fujikuroi species complex.
