F. verticillioides (Sacc.) Nirenberg

Microconidia: Abundant, clavate, usually one-celled but sometimes with 1 or 2 septa.

Macroconidia: Slender, falcate and rather straight, with slightly incurved apical cell and distinct foot cell.

Conidiophores: Unbranched and branched monophialides.

Chlamydospores: Absent.

Perfect State: Gibberella moniliformis = mating population A of the Gibberella fujikuroi species complex.

On PDA: Similar to F. oxysporum. Rapid growing with white mycelium, often tinged with purple. Purple sclerotia (protoperithecia?) may be present.

Taxonomy: The name F. moniliforme is no longer in use, for two major reasons: 1. The name as previously applied (sensu Snyder & Hansen) comprised a very broad spectrum of species, and 2. The name F. verticilloides takes priority.
